Connor Gleason

Districts across the country have been hard at work behind the scenes—not only in classroom prepping for the year ahead, but online, putting the finishing touches on their redesigns. August brought a wave of new website launches, and these districts are kicking off the school year with beautiful designs, stronger messaging, and better tools for the families they serve.

From mobile-first resource hubs to homepage storytelling, these sites are designed to support a smooth and successful start to the academic year.

In this round-up, you’ll find inspiring new sites that are:

  • Centralizing back-to-school information and critical updates
  • Built around audience-first navigation to serve families, staff, and students
  • Highlighting district pride through stories, visuals, and fast facts
  • Incorporating accessibility tools and translation options for inclusive communication
  • Driving engagement through clear calls to action for enrollment, support, and connection

Take a look at the latest launches from Washoe County, Bellingham, and more, each one built to start strong, serve well, and stay connected all year long.

Washoe County School District

Washoe County School District (WCSD) just launched a new website designed to capture the energy, diversity, and dedication of the Reno-based district. From a video montage opening that captures students crossing the graduation stage, breaking ground on new initiatives, and the grin on the district’s SRO canine unit, the new site brings the WCSD experience to life.

What Stands Out:

  • Branded Icons for high-demand resources like the calendar, bus schedules, meals, and attendance, making it easy for families to find what they need fast.

  • Mission-Driven Messaging throughout the homepage, anchored in the district’s promise to “know every student by name, strength, and need,” and to partner with families and the community.

  • Dynamic CTA Section for key actions like back-to-school help, Family Resource Center access, and attendance resources. Hovering over these CTAs transforms them into a unified call to action—a creative and effective design touch.

  • Clear and Streamlined Navigation with drop-down menus and keyword search options to easily explore district information, individual school sites, and departments.

  • Dedicated Pages for district goals, the Board of Trustees, family engagement, and strategic planning, allowing users to stay informed and involved.

  • AudioEye Integration enhances accessibility, providing more tools and customization for a wider range of users.

If you’re a parent looking for bus schedules or a community member curious about district initiatives, the new site supports a strong user experience for all its audiences. It’s a platform that supports connection, communication, and clarity, just in time for the new school year!

Bellingham Public Schools

Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) is now live with a redesigned website that shares both the district’s core values and its beautiful Washington state setting. From the moment you land on the homepage, you're greeted with mountain peaks and forest silhouettes that speak to the region’s natural beauty and guide users seamlessly through its content.

What Sets It Apart:

  • Brand-Forward Design: A clean white background is accented with the district’s bold blue, red, and white color palette, giving the site a crisp and polished look.

  • Sticky Navigation: Key links—Directory, Careers, and Enroll—stay pinned to the top, making it easy for users to take action from anywhere on the site.

  • “The Bellingham Promise” in Action: A core part of the district’s identity, the promise is brought to life through stories, photos, and sections that show its values in practice.

  • Staff Voices Highlighted: A dedicated area features educators sharing their experiences, showcasing the passion and purpose behind BPS’s mission.

  • Audience-Focused Navigation: Families, students, and staff each have dedicated resource sections, and whether you need SIS access, transportation info, or school forms, it's grouped and easy to find. Even with a lot of content, the site is easy to navigate, thanks to the CTAs at the bottom and a handy “jump to top” anchor to reset the overall experience.

Interior pages use accordions, CTAs, content blocks, and supportive imagery to make the denser content easier to digest. It feels distinctly Bellingham, but it's also designed for functionality, helping every user find what they need quickly and efficiently.

Congrats to BPS on a successful launch that blends storytelling, design, and user experience into one cohesive platform. It’s a great way to start the school year strong.

Glenbrook High School District 225

Glenbrook High School District has unveiled a newly refreshed homepage experience that blends bold visual identity with clear functionality—a perfect fit for a district that knows the power of both presentation and performance.

While the homepage is intentionally concise, it makes every pixel count.

What Works Well:

  • Branded purple is used throughout the header, footer, and several design elements, bringing a cohesive and confident visual identity to the experience. The sunrise motif—found in both the district’s logo and throughout the site—symbolizes growth, progress, and the promise of what’s ahead.

  • Mobile-friendly icons provide quick access to essential tools like the student information system, bell schedule, calendar, and staff directory

  • Popular searches and quick Links guide users to frequently accessed resources like bus routes, food services, and district policies, making the navigation easy for all audiences

  • District news highlights recent board updates, podcast episodes, and policy developments, to deliver timely content in a range of formats

  • Strategic messaging is front and center, including a superintendent’s welcome, links to the district’s strategic plan, and integrated social media posts across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn

And the consistency doesn't stop at the district level. Individual school sites mirror the same branded experience, offering a unified user journey for students, staff, and families alike.

Sacramento City Unified School District

With a clear message—“Empowering every student, every day”—Sacramento City Unified School District’s website shares its values through thoughtful design, user-focused features, and a consistent experience across all of its schools.

The homepage greets visitors with an easy-to-access call-to-action to enroll, supported by strategically placed pop-up reminders about registration and important deadlines. Whether you're a new family or a returning student, the information is organized and accessible thanks to expandable accordions, a simplified navigation menu, and quick links to everything from student services to calendars and career opportunities.

What Stands Out:

  • Organic Design Motif: Rounded images, green accents, and leafy graphic elements tie together a theme of growth and learning

  • Quick Links and CTAs: Easy access to board updates, FAQs, student support services, and career openings lets every user find their path

  • Celebrating Student Success: A dedicated news section highlights achievements and milestones from across the district

  • Unified School Experience: While each school has its own space to shine, the district has built a consistent design framework that supports usability while allowing for individual school identity to come through

  • Interior pages maintain the same visual integrity and structure as the homepage, making it easier for users to explore deeper without ever feeling lost.

Congratulations to the SCUD team and all the other districts on successful launches that are ready to support families, students, and staff all year long.
