3 Reasons You Should Attend a Web Strategy Workshop in 2017
Stephanie Griffin

Does your school already work with Finalsite? Are you a new employee of a private school, district, or college that has worked with Finalsite in the past? Or are you simply a school professional looking for ways to improve your school's digital presence, marketing, and website?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may be interested in our Web Strategy Workshops. We've been hosting these free, one day events across the world for more than five years, and have received great feedback from clients and non-clients on how valuable they are to school professionals working in public, independent, and higher education.

Web Strategy Workshop Attendees Collaborating

Our team at Finalsite continues to stay on top of the latest best practices and innovations to help schools be successful online, and always have something new to share at each event. Each year, we bring something new to the workshops to keep you up-to-date and informed.

If you haven't had the opportunity to attend a workshop yet, here are 3 reasons why you should in the upcoming year:

1. You'll learn how to create engaging content to convert your online audiences.

In one session, we will cover how content marketing will help your school connect and convert your online visitors. If content marketing is new to you, here is our quick definition: Content marketing is the process of creating high-quality, valuable content to attract, inform, and engage your target audiences, while also promoting your school.

In this session, you will learn how to create and leverage content like photos, blogs, and videos, to generate new website traffic, increase engagement, and establish new relationships. Think of how you'll want to engage with your audiences and the different topics to share on your website and other digital platforms.

Think generating new content is difficult? We recently congratulated two Finalsite clients who received the 2016 Communications Award for their District Websites from CABE — particularly Ellington Public Schools, who proved content marketing improve a school's brand and messaging, without putting in extra time or effort. Ellington Public Schools has been doing a great job combining their social media use and original content posting to produce thousands of pieces of content on a weekly and monthly basis.

At the workshop, you'll learn how to make your school standout by doing just this.

"It's always great to take a day off campus and remember why we are doing what we are doing. The Finalsite workshop helped me to reassess what we have been doing and motivated me to take some small steps that will help our website and marketing efforts. I always feel especially inspired and excited after Finalsite U in the summer, and coming to these workshops throughout the year keeps that same momentum going!"

2. You'll learn how your website can earn attention in 7 seconds or less.

First impressions are everything – and the same applies to your school's website. Did you know you have less than seven seconds to capture visitors' attention? We take this to the test during another session as we share examples of sites that can tell their school's story and engage emotions at a first glance, to some that may just need a face lift.

The value of this session is the importance of getting a second look at your website and consider ways to make it stand out more. We want your school to have a home page that draws the visitors' attention right away and is curious to learn more about your school. We also want these visitors to come back again and again and keep your school at the top of their list. You'll have the opportunity to see some of our best in class and recently launched websites that pass the seven second test and make a great first impression.

"I was inspired by the workshop: it was well-run and included plenty of relevant information. I was able to see what my School was doing well and where we need to improve. Thank you!"

3. You'll get something out of it without giving up your entire day

Something new we started offering are half-day workshops, where you can attend the free event in the morning or afternoon and not have to give up your entire work day! Even during the half-day workshops, there is opportunity to network with other school professionals and meet with Finalsite experts in person! We're also going to be visiting new schools and new areas this year to allow you the opportunity to attend.

"It was excellent. The industry insight, practical advice, and inclusion of practitioners made it a great workshop. I also appreciated the interactive nature of the sessions. It is definitely value added for people."

We continue to host both free full-day and free half-day workshops all year long in major cities across the country. Whether you're a current client or not, you're able to join us for an in-person event. We hope to see you this year!
