Software Update: May 25, 2018
Justin Ober

Hi everyone,

Resources continues to receive updates as we hear from you about how you’re using it and what you’re seeing. This week we’re rolling out a number of feature improvements in addition to some subtle visual tweaks here and there.

This Friday, May 25, is when the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation comes into force. One of the provisions of the GDPR prevents service providers (such as Finalsite) from processing data that tracks users’ religion or ethnicity. Consequently, with this release “Religion” and “Ethnicity” will be removed as potential fields that could be added to constituent profiles. This is for the most part a change without an impact, as the vast majority of schools don’t use those fields. Finalsite will reach out to the handful of impacted schools to discuss what will be done with that data when the affected fields are hidden.

Finally, if you have ever had the pleasure of participating in a “go/no-go” discussion about whether or not to cancel classes for your school or district due to the weather, you may recall that those conversations rarely happen at convenient times of day when you’ve got a computer handy. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could update your website with those sorts of messages from a phone? Good news, everyone! The PagePops interface has been made mobile-friendly, for easier use on smaller devices.

Take look below for everything else that’s new in Finalsite.

Composer

  • PagePop editing is now more accessible on mobile devices.
  • Removed the ability to add ‘Religion’ or ‘Ethnicity’ fields to constituent profiles, per GDPR regulations.

Resources

  • Users who are Admins of both the Posts and Resources modules, and who are also admins of at least one specific Board, will now be able to view all Boards’ folders in the “Posts” section of Resources.
  • Resources displayed within accordion elements will now once again display their configured alt text.
  • Resource Collection permission controls now exist in a tab in the Collection Settings menu.
  • When selecting  resources to a collection, you can now add to an existing collection OR create a new one (previously, you could only add to an existing collection; new collections had to be created on the Collections screen.)
  • Site admins can now copy and share links to a specific collection on a page with an element that’s set to display multiple collections. Simply click through to the collection you want to share, and copy the URL from the browser’s Address Bar.
  • The Resources Image Editor has been updated; it’s now possible to rotate and crop images to specific aspect ratios from within the Resources module.
  • Additionally, you can now specify whether you’d like to save edits to the image as a new resource, or overwrite the existing file.
