If you've seen the limited checkbox options on the element settings screen before, you might have trouble believing that you can display all the information from your Constituent Manager profiles in a pop-up or Constituent Profile element. "Custom" format under "Pop-Up Details" is the quick and easy way to display some of our most popular constituent profile fields, but with a few extra steps you can display any or all of your constituents' profile information, customized by role.

Before we delve into Constituent Manager, let's configure the settings in the Composer Constituent element that are going to show the profile information.
First, under Constituent Details, choose the option to "Link names to profile details" and/or "[View Profile] link to profile details." That will allow users to click on the constituent's name or a link at the bottom of their directory entry to see more information. Choosing both is a good usability practice.
Next, decide where to open the profile details under the Open In dropdown menu. You have the option to open in a popup window, on a page, or in an element. The popup window is just like it sounds; a small in-browser window will pop up to display the profile, and users can close it to go back to the directory.
If you decide to open the profile in a popup window, you can choose between the "Custom format" and the "Constituent role format" in Pop-Up Details.
The "Constituent role format" is actually more customizable than the "Custom format," it's just that most of the options aren't available on this screen. That's why our next stop is Constituent Manager.
Constituent Manager > Settings > Constituent Roles > [role] > Profile Fields
For each constituent role that appears in your directory, decide which fields will be visible to which constituents by default. These settings can be overridden on an individual basis. For each field, click on the edit pencil icon to inspect and change the Group Field Properties.
Under "Select the following groups for which this profile field will be visible," you can choose "Everyone," "No one," or "These constituent roles." "Everyone" will make the data in that field publicly visible to anyone who can see the page, whether or not they're logged in. Choosing "These constituent roles" makes a checklist appear, and you can choose what users can view the data while they're logged in.
Some fields, such as Contact Info, have more than one field setting within them. These offer the choice between "Public" and "Private," and if you choose "Private" the roles checklist will appear to specify any exceptions to the setting. The principle is the same.
Repeat this step for each field and each role that will appear in the directory. Make sure to click "Update Properties" for any field that you change.
Constituent Manager > Constituents > [profile]
Now it's time to check your work. Select the profile of a person who will appear in your directory. Click the "Preview as..." button and select one of the groups of constituents from the dropdown menu. The profile fields that aren't visible to members of that constituent group will be obscured. Click on "Return to edit mode" to go back.
Also on the profile screen, you can override the default settings for the profile fields for an individual constituent. Click on a blue or green field label to bring up the override settings. From here, choose to "Show to everyone" or "Hide from everyone"—the override is all or nothing. Once again, don't forget to click "Update."
You're done! To double-check that your Constituent Directory is showing all—and only—the fields you want to each constituent, try using the "Login as this portal user" function in Constituent Manager to get a first-hand look. Once you're happy with your Directory, remember to publish!
