An International School in Indonesia

Jakarta International School (JIS), one of the largest international schools in the world, launched a beautiful best-in-class design that highlights its three campuses in Indonesia. This one-of-a-kind homepage design ditches the "safe" hero image or video, and instead, features an interactive collage of images and text to engage website visitors at first glance.

The international school engages prospective students, current students, and alumni with a design that includes:

  • Interactive infographics and buttons
  • Bilingual website content
  • Design details inspired by Indonesian batik

Check out these features below!

FEATURED DESIGN ELEMENT

Innovative Homepage

JIS wanted the homepage to serve as touch points to interior pages, and its innovative photo collage is a great solution. Each image in the hero is a separate call-to-action, directing traffic to the About, Admissions, Athletics, and Service landing pages, respectively. Users can tell that the images are clickable because the cursor changes into a blue plus-sign shape and each box turns blue on hover. It's a subtle yet effective detail that really sets Jakarta's homepage apart from the rest.

FEATURED DESIGN ELEMENT

Bilingual Content

The homepage and all of the site's interior pages can be easily displayed in either English or Indonesian, attending to key constituent needs. Visitors simply press the toggle on the bottom-right corner of the website to switch to the language of their choice.

Stunning Design Details

The vine animation, which traces in after the content loads, adds extra detail and unifies the various homepage panels, drawing visitors continuously downward to further engage with each panel and come to know the JIS story. The design also has a deep cultural connection to Indonesian batik and the vines wrapped around the trees at JIS

FEATURED DESIGN ELEMENT

JIS by the Numbers Infographic

Infographics are considered a best practice for content marketing because they're captivating, to-the-point, and easy-to-digest. Jakarta uses numbers to give visitors a quick glance at key facts about the school without having to read.

Animated Buttons and Infographics

Each campus has its own batik brand and color, which makes these buttons easy to distinguish. When visitors hover each button, the color fills in the box from the bottom up — an extra animation that adds interaction and excitement to the homepage. Leveraging the JIS blue with a transparent overlay of a central campus fixture, the infographics literally "jump to life," emphasizing some of the international school's key distinctions.

Alumni Testimonial Panel

A sliding panel on the homepage shows professional photos of alumni in both color and black and white. Visitors can take a quick glance at each alumnus (their names, class year and career) or click to to view a dedicated alumni page which has social media integration, an engaging video, and a password-protected alumni portal. "Once a dragon, always a dragon" — the JIS advancement team keeps its multicultural community connected long after graduation.

School Navigation

Image buttons are much more compelling than a plain button — visitors can click to view the Early Years, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School pages, respectively. The button text and color changes on hover, encouraging clicks.
